Grade 1 Charger Bar Handicap, Dashingly Set For Sunday Night

LOS ALAMITOS, CA–JANUARY 3, 2025– Robert Tyburski's red-hot mare Streaks Of Power is among the headliners in a deep and talented group entered in the Grade 1, $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

A full field of 10 outstanding mares will be in action in a race that has produced the last three AQHA champion aged mares in Kiss Thru Fire in 2021 and 2022 and Famous Shining Star in 2023.

The 2025 running of the Charger Bar will be headed by the Power Jam (TB) mare Streaks Of Power, who enters riding the crest of a three-race winning streak and an undefeated campaign in 2024.

The Ken O'Brien bred mare won the Grade 1 Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge Championship at The Downs at Albuquerque in her last start to go along with a pair of impressive wins at Los Alamitos last summer.

During her 3-year-old campaign, Streaks Of Power qualified to both the Los Alamitos Oaks and the All American Oaks, qualifying to each of those races after winning both of her trials in very impressive fashion. She'll enter the Charger Bar after more than 60 days off however she did have a solid

:12.3 gate drill at Los Alamitos on December 11. Armando Cervantes will pilot Streaks Of Power for trainer Monty Arrossa from post number six.

The Charger Bar field will also feature Gary Laramie's Jessica Cruz, who looked better and better with every one of her starts last year. The talented mare by FDD Dynasty was third to the outstanding Pattys Saint in the Grade 2 Miss Princess Handicap on May 5 to begin a streak of five consecutive top-three efforts in stakes races.

She faced off with Pattys Saint in her next two starts, running second in the Abigail Kawananakoa Stakes on June 15 and then third in the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap on September 14. She was victorious in her next two starts, winning over males in the Azure Three Handicap when flashing terrific speed at 220 yards and then taking the Grade 2 Las Damas Handicap over a great cast of mares at 400 yards.

With that effort Jessica Cruz has now won races at Los Alamitos at 110 yards, 220, 300, 350 and 400 yards since April of 2023. Jockey Rodrigo Aceves will ride Jessica Cruz from post number two for trainer Elena Andrade.

Ed Allred's Nymphette has been knocking on the door of a Grade 1 stakes victory in this division for quite some time and quick start and early involvement for the lead might be all she needs to get the job done.

Always a strong finisher, Nymphette was second both the 2024 and 2022 Grade 1 Mildred Vessels runnings and third in last year's Grade 1 Charger Bar, Abigail Kawananakoa and Las Damas. She did win the Rolling A Ranch Matron Stakes for California-breds with a display of speed in the second half of that race.

Glenn Jr. will saddle the daughter of Fly Thru The Fire, who will be ridden by Jesus Rios Ayala from post number seven.

Trainer John Stinebaugh has shipped two outstanding mares to Los Alamitos with Curls Joyful Wagon and First Time For Wine to be a part of the nation's best distaff stakes program in the nation.

Stacy Martin's Curls Joyful Wagon is a seven-time winner and $339,805 career earner with a victory in the Lone Star Distaff Challenge on September 28 and a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Junos Request Stakes at Remington Park on June 1.

She was also part of the All American Oaks along with Streaks Of Power in 2023. Ali Rivera rides the 5-year-old daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon from post number four.

Owned by Pete Scarmardo, First Time For Wine won the Yellow Rose of Texas Stakes in her last start on November 2 and before that she ran second to Curls Joyful Wagon in the Lone Star Distaff Challenge. First Time For Wine has finished in the top three in 17 of her 21 career starts.

Edwin Escobedo, the winning ride of the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and Holiday Handicap, gets the call on the First Moonflash mare from post number three.

Parsons Ranch's Rockin With Energy had some stellar performances as a 3-year-old last year, winning the California Breeders Debutante Stakes by 1 ¼ lengths and the Justanold Love Handicap against older rivals by 1 ½ lengths. She also raced in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby and Grade 2 Golden State Derby in 2024.

Paul Jones, this track's second all-time leading trainer with 351 stakes wins, conditions Rockin With Energy, who'll be ridden by Henry Reynoso Lopez from post one.

The rest of the field features multiple stakes winners AJ Born Runnin and AJ Run For Cash plus talented mares Jess Good Candy, and Wise Lady Dawn.

Brazilian Star Leads Dashingly Field

The Brazilian superstar Miss Isao Jqm heads the field of nine in the $20,000 Dashingly Stakes for aged mares at 350 yards here on Sunday night.

Owned by Pedro Barbizan Santiago Leite, the 6-year-old Mr Jess Perry mare was a perfect 10 for 10 during her Brazilian racing career, winning all of the major races in her division held in Sao Paulo.

Traveling to Los Alamitos in 2024, the James Glenn Jr.-trained mare has improved in each of her three outings here since September as she's familiarized herself with her new surroundings and the Los Alamitos racing nightlife.
