MEXICO CITY, MEX–APRIL 9, 2025–Nine trials to the 15th annual Mexican Futurity [RG3] are set for Sunday, April 13, at the Hipodromo de las Americas in Mexico City. The top ten fastest times to the first futurity finals of the season will run at 250 yards for a purse of $163,138 on Sunday, May 4.
Trials are set to start at 3:00 (CST).
Eight of the 73 two-year-olds who entered the Sunday trials have broken their maiden from their first start. Two juveniles to watch for come from the young trainer Juan Manuel Carrasco’s stables. Katella Krash and Kc Queen Cartel, who are both by the champion sire Krash Cartel.
Katella Krash clocked a 90 speed after winning her 220-yard maiden by 1 1/2 lengths on March 23; the fastest speed index clocked this year. The 5-2 favorite will be running from the seven-hole in race nine of the day.
Kc Queen Cartel won his maiden start by a half-length on March 30 and clocked the fastest workout time on March 19. The two-year-old colt is set to run from the six spot in trial seven. Abelardo Gallegos bred him from the Walk Thru Fire mare U R My Queen.
Martin Hernandez, who was aboard both horses in their maiden voyages, will return for mounts in the trials.
Both Katella Krash and Kc Queen Cartel were bred by Abelardo Gallegos and are owned by Cuadra San Dibahn. Kc Queen Cartel is out of U R My Queen, and Katella Krash is out of Walking On Katella. Both of their dams are by the leading sire Walk Thru Fire.
Another filly to look out for is the Rancho Las Gaviotas-owned Rg Beautiful Vicky. Bred by Criadero San Sebastian, the daughter of Swingin Corona won her maiden start on March 23 by 3/4 lengths.
Trainer Marlon Quezada named Alejandro Gomez to board Rg Beautiful Vicky in trial five. The 5-2 favorite out of Rg Victoria Native by Native Jewel Dh will break from the three-hole.
