TULSA, OK–JUNE 30, 2026–The Speedhorse Trials take center stage this weekend at Fair Meadows, as Thursday evening's nine-race card kicks off an exciting program. First post is set for 6:00 p.m., with six trial heats on the card, including two divisions of the Speedhorse Quarter Horse Derby Trials and four trial heats for the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Trials.

The featured Quarter Horse sophomores will compete in races six and seven, where eighteen 3-year-olds will run 350 yards in pursuit of one of the ten fastest qualifying times for the estimated $85,000 Speedhorse Quarter Horse Derby Finals on July 18.

The top contender is Wera C, who headlines the second and final trial in race seven as the 2-1 morning-line favorite. The talented filly opened her 2026 campaign at Remington Park with a runner-up finish against allowance non-winners of three, then captured her trial for the Grade 2 $374,000 Heritage Place Oaks. She followed that effort with a strong second-place finish in the Oaks final, finishing just one-half length behind. Racing for CH Horse Racing, LLC, Wera C has compiled three victories, five seconds, and one third, earning $177,315. She was purchased for $73,000 at the TQHA Yearling Sale.

The daughter of Flying Cowboy 123, out of the One Dashing Eagle mare Pillow Talk, was bred in Texas by Ellis H. Hank Bird. Trainer Marco Adair Chavez-Gutierrez sends her from the inside rail, with Jonathan Dominguez aboard.

Race seven shapes up as the stronger of the two Derby trials, featuring several accomplished runners returning from successful juvenile campaigns. Among the top challengers is Mr Booombastic, the 7-2 second choice on the morning line. The colt enters the trials off an allowance victory at Remington Park, a performance that suggests he is well prepared for this assignment.

Owned by Bertha A. Nunez, Mr Booombastic has won four of nine career starts and earned $69,971. The Heritage Place Sale graduate was purchased for $22,000 and is by Dulce Sin Tacha out of the Apollo (TB) mare Dancing Iam. Bred in Oklahoma by Mr. or Mrs. L. Judd Morse, he is trained by Jose Angel Burciaga and will break from post five with Cody R. Smith in the saddle.

With several proven stakes performers and developing sophomores returning to competition, the Speedhorse Quarter Horse Derby Trials promise competitive racing as the field vies for a spot in the July 18 finals. Thursday's card kicks off the road to championship night at Fair Meadows, while the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Trials will showcase the next generation of juveniles in four trial heats.
