Funeral Services Set Wednesday for Longtime Stakes Winning Trainer Roy Lee Marcom, Jr.

AUBREY, TX–JUNE 10, 2024–Funeral services for longtime trainer Roy Lee Marcom, Jr., 80, will be held at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) on Wednesday, June 12 at Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey, Texas.

Visitation is set from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. before the service. Ed Bonneau will officiate. Interment will follow at Belew Cemetery in Aubrey.

Roy of Alba, TX, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, in Tyler, Texas. He was born March 9, 1944, in Dallas, to Roy Lee Marcom Sr. and Ruby Louise (Curtis) Marcom. He married Beverly Ann Good on October 17, 1963, in Farmers Branch, Texas.

Roy was a multiple stakes-winning Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred trainer for many years. According to Equibase records, he saddled 577 QH winners who earned $5.7 million and 386 TB winners who earned $3.7 million.

Among his top QH stakes winners were West Texas Futurity(G1) winner Wr Golden Eagle, Sunland Park Winter Derby(G2) winner Heavenly Trip, Sunray Park Marathon Handicap(G3) Running Roscoe, and Manor Downs Derby(G2) winner Jodies Pop Pop to name only a few.

He saddled his last starter in 2021.

Roy is survived by his wife, Beverly of Emory, TX; three sons, Bryan Matthew Marcom of Fort Myers, FL, Bradley Otis Marcom of Alba, TX, and Brandon Lee Marcom of Alba, TX; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Greg Marcom and wife Marlina of Ruidoso, NM.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruby.
