Vivanco, Loza, Sunset Well Service Top Retama Park Quarter Horse Meet

Luis L. Vivanco, Mario J. Loza and Sunset Well Service, Inc. finished atop their respective divisions by wins as Retama Park closed its 2026 Quarter Horse meet Saturday night.

The summer stand, which opened June 25 and concluded August 22, featured Vivanco as the leading jockey by wins with 22 victories from 153 mounts. His runners also finished second 18 times and third 12 times while earning $535,853.

Vivanco won at a 14% rate and finished among the top three in 52 races, or 34% of his mounts.

Victor Manuel Urieta, Jr. finished next among the jockeys with 19 wins from 103 starts. Urieta added 12 seconds and 11 thirds while his mounts earned $352,828. He won with 18% of his mounts and finished in the top three 42 times, a 41% rate.

Gilberto Linares rounded out the top three with 18 victories from 82 mounts. Linares also recorded nine seconds and 10 thirds with earnings of $214,610. His 22% win rate was the highest among the three leading riders, and he finished in the top three with 45% of his mounts.

Loza Tops Trainer Standings

Mario J. Loza led Retama Park trainers by wins, saddling 13 winners from 47 starts during the meet. His stable added seven seconds and eight thirds while earning $137,032.

Loza won with 28% of his starters and finished in the top three 28 times.

Brittany N. Tellez finished second with 11 victories from 47 starts. Her runners added eight seconds and seven thirds and earned $170,225 during the meet. Tellez posted a 23% win rate with 26 top-three finishes.

Ben Olaveson was third by wins with eight victories from only 21 starts. His stable also recorded five seconds and one third while earning $207,111. Olaveson's 38% win rate was the highest among the three leading trainers.

Sunset Well Service Leads Owners

Sunset Well Service, Inc. topped the owner standings by wins with six victories from 19 starts. Its runners added one second and two thirds while earning $55,369.

The stable won at a 32% rate and finished among the top three in nine of its 19 starts, a 47% clip.

Sarah Huskey and John Boegner tied for second with five victories each. Huskey's runners made 16 starts, adding two seconds and three thirds while earning $97,865. Her stable finished in the top three 10 times, or 63% of its starts, and posted a 31% win rate.

Boegner recorded five wins, two seconds, and three thirds from 25 starts. His runners earned $58,593 and finished in the top three 10 times for a 40% rate.

Retama Park's 2026 Quarter Horse season concluded Saturday night following nearly two months of racing at the Selma, Texas, racetrack.
