Ashotatmeleavinyou Tops Elko Intermountain Futurity Qualifiers

Ashotatmeleavinyou posted the fastest qualifying time from four trials held Friday for the $20,000-added Elko Intermountain Futurity at the Elko County Fair.

The 2-year-olds competed at 350 yards over a fast track, with Ashotatmeleavinyou turning in the quickest clocking of :17.835 in the third trial.

Ashotatmeleavinyou broke sharply under jockey Raphael Romero and led throughout, drawing clear to win by three-quarters of a length. The victory earned the filly a 94 speed index.

Owned by Alex Romero and trained by Abel Romero, Ashotatmeleavinyou was bred in Oklahoma by Brian Gunder. The daughter of RC Me Leaving You is out of the Strawfly Special mare A Shot At Glory.

She improved her record to 6-2-0-2 with earnings of $9,828. Earlier this season, Ashotatmeleavinyou won the Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity Consolation and was a finalist in the Bitterroot Futurity.

Cartels Panhandle finished second behind Ashotatmeleavinyou to record the second-fastest qualifying time of :17.957. Ridden by Jesus Valenzuela, the filly raced second throughout and finished three-quarters of a length behind the winner.

A homebred for owner Merlin Sharp, Cartels Panhandle is trained by Sergio Canales. She is a daughter of Iba Cartel out of the Hez Our Secret mare Panhandle Ms. She has compiled a 6-2-2-0 record with earnings of $15,484 and was a finalist in the Idaho Cup Futurity before finishing fourth in the Bitterroot Futurity earlier this season.

Hot Britches posted the third-fastest qualifying time after winning the fourth and final trial in :18.049. With Luis Collazo aboard, the filly rallied from third to get up by a half-length over Wacky Wednesday.

Owned by Eduardo Robles and trained by Ramiro Fregoso, Hot Britches was bred in Idaho by Edward and Von Zae McNelis. The daughter of In Hott Pursuit is out of the Royaltys Choice mare Rumpled Britches.

Hot Britches improved her record to 6-3-0-0 with earnings of $7,422. She was also a finalist in the Idaho Cup Futurity earlier this season.

The $20,000-added Elko Intermountain Futurity final is scheduled for September 7 at the Elko County Fair.
