Cholulaa Sets Paint Track Record In Colors Of The Wind Maturity

Cholulaa APHA earned her first stakes victory in record-setting fashion Saturday night, capturing the $42,737 Colors Of The Wind Paint & Appaloosa Maturity at Retama Park.
Ridden by Alejandro Medina, Cholulaa broke fourth from the inside before quickly moving into contention. The three-year-old filly dueled for the lead and prevailed in a driving finish by a head, completing 350 yards in :17.739 for a 99 speed index.
Her :17.739 clocking established a new Retama Park track record for Paints, eclipsing the :17.788 mark set by V Golden Game just last month.
Cholulaa is owned by Guerras Racing Stables and trained by Gilberto Gonzalez. Bred by Abraham Huitron, she is a $14,500 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate. The filly is sired by Chilitos and out of the Valiant Hero mare Valiant Felicity.
Her female family includes champions Jess Walking Thru ($447,266) and Sass Me Blue ($296,378). Cholulaa improved her record to 14-2-3-1 with earnings of $44,186.
Saturday's victory marked her first stakes win after qualifying for several major events, including the Colors Of Houston Futurity (G2), TPHBA Paint Horse Juvenile Stakes, TPHBA Juvenile and Texas Hero Juvenile Stakes.
I Do Not Recall APHA finished second under Luis Vivanco. After breaking ninth, the three-year-old gelding quickly advanced into contention and made a late bid to secure second, finishing a head behind the winner in :17.765 for a 98 speed index.
Owned by Damika Burton and trained by Richard Washington, I Do Not Recall was bred by Douglas McMullen. He is sired by Chilitos and out of the Spit Curl Jess mare Fly Lil Curl.
I Do Not Recall now has a record of 12-2-4-3 with earnings of $58,626. He previously finished third in the Alamo Paint & Appaloosa Futurity (G3) and was a finalist in the Texas Hero Futurity (G1).
La Cholula APHA crossed the wire in third under J.R. Ramirez Jr. The four-year-old filly made a bid during the 350-yard event before finishing a head behind I Do Not Recall in :17.793 for a 97 speed index.
Owned and bred by Isabel Huitron and trained by Shae Cox, La Cholula was a $16,000 repurchase at the TQHA Yearling Sale before later selling for $18,000 at the Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale. She is sired by Chilitos and out of the winning FDD Dynasty mare Im Marbella. Her female family includes champion Jess Louisiana Blue ($170,682) and champion Little Blue Sheep ($389,355).
Ima Chili finished fourth, followed by Vp Dash For Texas, Rosario Tijeras, Just An Eagle, Vp Wired To Win, Vp Voladora and Vp Gravel Pit Dancer.
