Dangerous Jess Breaks Maiden In $200,000 All American Juvenile

Dangerous Jess picked an opportune time to break his maiden Monday afternoon, turning back Tell A Scout by a neck to capture the $200,000 All American Juvenile at The Downs at Albuquerque.

The 2-year-old son of leading sire Apollitical Jess covered the 440 yards in :21.011, earning a 99 speed index over a fast racing surface. A 5 mph crosswind accompanied the race.

With jockey Oscar Andrade Jr. aboard, Dangerous Jess quickly established himself at the front and held a determined Tell A Scout through the stretch to secure the neck victory. Tell A Scout finished another neck in front of Fall Classic for second.

“Clint and the owners obviously had a lot of faith in me when they put me on this horse,” Andarde Jr. said after the race. “Clint told me, ‘You’re going to break in front, and they’re not going to catch you.’ That’s exactly what he did. He had a solid break and just kept going.”

The victory was worth $84,000 for owners Jeremy C. Newton, Bill T. Robbins, Renee K. Wilson and Connie Nobles. Trainer Clinton Crawford conditions the Oklahoma-bred colt, who was bred by Bill W. Underwood.

Dangerous Jess is out of the Leaving Memories mare Dangerous Dawn. The All American Juvenile was the first career victory for the sorrel colt, improving his record to 3-1-1-1 with earnings of $87,000.

Tell A Scout overcame a hopped start and made a solid bid under jockey champion Ricky Ramirez before settling for second, earning $36,000 for owners Mark McCloy and Fay Annette McCloy.

S. Trey Wood trains the gelded son of third-crop sire Tell Cartel from the Apollitical Jess mare Apollitical Scout. Bred by Paragon Farms LLC, Tell A Scout was a $42,000 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale graduate.

Monday's runner-up effort increased Tell A Scout's career record to 7-3-2-0 with earnings of $123,205. He was also a finalist in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity earlier this season.

Fall Classic closed after veering out at the start to finish another neck behind Tell A Scout in third. The effort was worth $20,000 for owner Christopher A. Villatoro. Christian Cardenas rode the Rodolfo G. Valles trainee.

Bred by Jim Streelman or Bill Dale, Fall Classic is a son of leading second-crop sire Cyber Monday from the Mr Jess Perry mare Lady Bellaqua. The gelding was purchased for $47,000 at the 2025 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Winner of the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity earlier this year, Fall Classic has now earned $530,970 from five starts, with three wins, one second and one third.

Completing the field were Cyber Paint, First Dashing Cowboy, My Golden Boy, Greatest Ever, favored Cowboy Magic 111, Navajo Stone and Sovereign Lord. Fearless Cowboy was scratched from the also-eligible list.

The $200,000 All American Juvenile was restricted to 2-year-olds that competed in the 2026 All American trials, with five of the fastest non-qualifiers from each day of trials earning berths in the 10-horse field.
