DK Goliat Leads Cuadra San Martin Exacta in Derby Desafío Crianza Mexicana

DK Goliat led a one-two finish for owner Cuadra San Martin and trainer Luis Enrique Cruz Solis Sunday night, defeating stablemate Mi Krash Favorito in the $57,330 XII Derby Desafío Crianza Mexicana at Hipódromo de las Américas.

Ridden by Paul Osvaldo Rodriguez, DK Goliat covered the 350 yards in :17.443, earning a 91 speed index. Mi Krash Favorito finished second in :17.553 with an 88 speed index, while Why Fritz completed the trifecta in :17.574 with an 87 speed index.

The Derby was restricted to 3-year-old Quarter Horses bred in Mexico, with the 10 finalists earning their berths through qualifying trials contested August 9.

DK Goliat entered the final off a runner-up effort to BR Chago in his August 9 trial. The gelding had previously won back-to-back races at 220 yards, breaking his maiden April 26 before returning June 14 to win an allowance race.

Sunday's victory improved DK Goliat's career record to three wins and three seconds from seven starts with earnings of over $34,000. He has won three of five starts this season and this is his first in stakes company.

Bred in Mexico by Cuadra La Presita, DK Goliat is by Danny Cartel, a son of Corona Cartel, and out of Toles, by Ought To Be First. Luis Enrique Cruz Solis trains the 3-year-old gelding for Cuadra San Martin.

Stablemate Mi Krash Favorito finished second under Angel Santillan, adding another stakes placing to his 3-year-old campaign. The gelding came into Sunday's final off a three-quarter-length victory in his August 9 trial, covering 350 yards in :17.73 with an 82 speed index.

Earlier this season, Mi Krash Favorito qualified for the Derby Garanones, where he finished fifth in the May 3 final. He also competed in the Derby Subasta Selecta, finishing eighth on June 28.

Mi Krash Favorito now has five wins, three seconds and one third from 17 career starts with earnings of over $68,000. He has won two of eight starts this season.

Bred in Mexico by Abelardo Gallegos Fernandez, Mi Krash Favorito is by Krash Cartel, a son of Corona Cartel, and out of Estrella De Noche, by Favorite Cartel. He is also trained by Luis Enrique Cruz Solis for Cuadra San Martin.

Why Fritz finished third for owner Cuadra Tarascos and trainer Gregorio Alberto Razo Parra. Ridden by Jesus Loredo, the 3-year-old colt was coming off a second-place finish to Mi Krash Favorito in their August 9 trial.

Why Fritz now has four wins, one second and three thirds from 14 career starts with earnings of over $47,000. Bred in Mexico by Rachuan Suarez, the son of Shazoom, and out of BV Why Not Me, by Tres Seis.

BR Chago, KC Diamante, El Nino De Blanco, Red Storm Cash, KC Shes Krash, K To Be Queen, and El Agravio RCH complete the order of finish.
