Norris Tops Strong Ruidoso Second Session At $800,000 As Average, Median Post Gains

Hip 350 Norris commanded $800,000 Saturday night to top the second session and become the overall high seller through two days of the 2026 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

Strong demand was evident throughout Saturday’s session, with three yearlings selling for $500,000 or more. Hip 300 Favorite Fly Boy brought $600,000, while Hip 283 Big Time Boss Man sold for $500,000.

The second session produced notable gains in both average and median despite offering fewer yearlings than a year ago.

Through the two 2026 sessions, 302 yearlings sold for $21,815,000. The cumulative average stands at $72,235, up 2.3% from $70,600 through the same point last year, while the median has increased 6.1% from $41,000 to $43,500.

MJ Farms, Agent consigned Norris, who was purchased by Norman Allen and Jimmy Barton. The son of leading sire Flying Cowboy 123 is out of the Big Daddy Cartel mare Donelli.

Norris is a half-brother to stakes winners Harken (2026, $410,453) and Jarvis V (2026, $328,185) and three stakes-placed runners, including Daou ($249,695). His dam, Donelli, is a multiple stakes winner who earned $420,604 on the track and has produced five winners/black-type earners from six starters.

Norris is from the family of world champion Asscher ($489,674), as well as champions Astica ($411,623) and Alice K White ($276,837).

Cross Triangle Ranch LLC consigned the second- and third-highest sellers from Day 2, with both purchased by Zane Kiehne.

Hip 300 Favorite Fly Boy, who brought $600,000, is a son of Favorite Cartel out of three-time champion Flash And Roll, by First Moonflash. Flash And Roll is a three-time Grade 1 winner who earned $1,710,718 and has produced three winners from three starters, including Grade 2 Firecracker Futurity winner Swing Time ($58,662).

Favorite Fly Boy's second dam is champion Stylish Jess BR ($804,298), and his family also includes champion Separate Fire ($631,250).

Kiehne also paid $500,000 for Hip 283 Big Time Boss Man, a brown colt by Favorite Cartel out of Broodmare of the Year Apollitical Time, by Apollo TB.

Big Time Boss Man is a half-brother to the No. 1 leading living sire and world champion Apollitical Jess ($1,399,831) and to the dam of Grade 2 winner and black-type sire Mr Apollitical Dash ($216,811). His dam, three-time champion Apollitical Time, earned $904,242.

Corona Cartel led all sires by average with four yearlings averaging $138,500 and grossing $554,000. Apollitical Jess follows with 27 yearlings averaging $121,593 and grossing $3,283,000. Flying Cowboy 123 has 49 yearlings averaging $121,490 with gross receipts of $5,953,000. Dulce Sin Tacha has nine yearlings averaging $113,778 for $1,024,000, while Favorite Cartel rounds out the top five with 51 yearlings averaging $84,490 and grossing $4,309,000.

Cross Triangle Ranch LLC was the sale’s leading consignor, with 11 yearlings bringing $2,525,000. MJ Farms, Agent is second with 16 head totaling $1,719,000, followed by Burns Ranch, Agent with 19 yearlings bringing $1,616,000.

Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent sold 20 yearlings for $1,346,500, while Red River Equine LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC has sold 13 for $1,290,000.

Red River Equine LLC also served as agent for Beus Quarter Horses and Whitmire Ranch, who each sold one of the top three high sellers from the opening session for $300,000 and $250,000, respectively.

Kiehne led all buyers with three purchases totaling $1,500,000. Norman Allen and Jimmy Barton follow with four yearlings totaling $1,430,000, while West Texas Racing Partners LLC has purchased 10 for $1,347,000.

Ricardo Ramirez ranks fourth with seven purchases totaling $791,000, followed by Scott and Jaime Bryant with five yearlings for $717,000.

Jess Good Candy leads the damsire standings by average through the first two sessions, with two yearlings averaging $245,000 and grossing $490,000. Good Reason SA follows with two averaging $225,000 for $450,000.

First Moonflash was the damsire of six yearlings, averaging $151,500 and grossing $909,000, followed by Ivory James with three averaging $141,667 for $425,000. Pappasito rounds out the top five with four yearlings averaging $131,750 and grossing $527,000.
