Seven Louisiana-Bred Stakes Headline Closing-Night Program at Delta Downs

VINTON, LA—AUGUST 17, 2020—Seven official Louisiana-bred stakes, headlined by the 350-yard, $1,025,782 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1), will headline Saturday’s 10-race closing-night card at Delta Downs.

Ten state-bred 2-year-olds are entered back in the Lee Berwick Futurity, topped by fastest overall qualifier Ought To Go Tee. A gelded son of Tee Cos trained by Fernando Lopez for owner Jose U. Oviedo, Ought To Go Tee is coming off of a dominating 3 3/4-length victory in the eighth of 10 trials on July 31, the first of two nights of trials.

Ought To Go Tee has earned $74,056 from three races, and his record includes a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Sir Louisiana Dash, in the 330-yard, $358,000 Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2) on the Fourth of July. The gelding drew post 2 and will be ridden by Rolando Cabrera.

El Camino CL, a graded stakes winning Heza Fast Dash colt owned by Delfino Lozano IV, drew post 4 and will be ridden by Eddie Sanchez for trainer Jose Luis Sanchez III. El Camino CL has banked $194,423 from five outs, and his four wins include a neck victory in the March 14, $315,000 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) at Louisiana Downs.

Trainer Kenny Roberts will send out three contenders, headed by fastest qualifier Lifeinthefastlanes. A daughter of champion Jess Louisiana Blue racing for Jason Richards and Michael J. Leblanc, Lifeinthefastlanes has won all three of her outs this season, including the last of four trials on July 30.

Lifeinthefastlanes scored a three-quarter length victory in the 400-yard, $50,000 Vinton Stakes (R) for Louisiana-bred sophomores. The filly drew post 2 and will be ridden by David Alvarez.

Larry J. Boudreaux’s Mpshinning is the early favorite for Saturday’s 440-yard, $75,000 Louisiana Classic Stakes (RG1) for aged state-bred sprinters.

A 4-year-old son of Mr Piloto trained by Adrian Huitron, Mpshinning will be stretching out in distance off of his 1 1/2-length victory in the 400-yard, $40,000 Miss Polly Classic Stakes (RG2) on July 23. The stallion drew post 10 and will be ridden by Everardo Rodriguez.

Wilson One Consulting LLC’s Louisiana Dressblues drew the rail post for Saturday’s 870-yard, $50,000 Live Oak Stakes (R). A 5-year-old Jess Louisiana Blue gelding trained by Trey Ellis, Louisiana Dressblues is coming off of a half-length win in the 870-yard, $25,000 Virgil Bond Stakes at Delta Downs on July 18. The chestnut gelding will be ridden by Juan F. Garcia Jr.

Jose Estrada Quarter Horses’ Eysa Jess Jumpn will make her season debut in Saturday’s 330-yard, $50,000 Flashy Hemp Stakes (R). A 4-year-old daughter of Heza Fast Dash trained by Fructuoso Huitron, the mare won all nine of her starts and banked $461,767 during her sophomore campaign, and her four stakes wins included the Dash For Cash Derby (G2) at Lone Star Park and Sam Houston Derby (G3) at Sam Houston Race Park. Eysa Jess Jumpn drew post 8 and will be ridden by David Alvarez.

Saturday’s 220-yard, $50,000 Flying Breed Stakes (R) drew a full field of 10 Louisiana-bred sprinters, topped by Jose Alfonso Ramos’ Mardi Gras Paint. A 3-year-old son of Paint Me Perry trained by Miguel Rodriguez, the gelding ended his juvenile campaign with a half-length victory in Louisiana’s richest horse race, the 400-yard, $1-million Louisiana Million Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs. Mardi Gras Paint drew the rail post and will be ridden by Jorge Linares for trainer Miguel Rodriguez.

He B Swift heads a field of 10 state-bred 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s 350-yard, $75,000 Louisiana Juvenile Stakes (R). Trained by Joel Huitron for owners Oscar Edel Moreno and Juan Galicia, He B Swift has earned $15,560 from three outs this season, and the Freighttrain B colt was a finalist in the 330-yard, $358,000 Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2) in July. He B Swift drew the rail post and will be ridden by Everardo Rodriguez.
