OPELOUSAS, LA—SEPTEMBER 27, 2020—A total of 126 state-bred 2-year-olds, headed by graded stakes winner Sheza Freighttrain T, are entered in Thursday’s 350-yard Louisiana QHBA Sale Futurity (G1) trials, as Evangeline Downs kicks off the Fair Grounds 2020 Quarter Horse meet with a 13-race program.
Post time for the first race is set for 5:35 p.m. (CDT).
A brown daughter of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon stallion Freighttrain B trained by Eric Long for owner Patrick Richardson, Sheza Freighttrain T will be making her first start since July 3, when the filly scored a head victory on a sloppy and sealed track in the 330-yard, $329,000 Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs. Sheza Freighttrain T has won three of four starts and has earned $227,884.
Sheza Freighttrain T was a $50,000 purchase at last year’s LQHBA Yearling Sale. The filly drew the rail post and will be ridden by Rolando Pina in the last of 13 trials.
Jessa Louisiana Dash, a two-time futurity qualifier this year, drew post 4 and will be ridden by Ubaldo Luna. A daughter of Heza Fast Dash trained by Martin Rubalcava for owner Eleazar Martinez Sr. and a $25,000 buy at last year’s LQHBA Sale, Jessa Louisiana Dash has earned $49,738 from five outs, and her record includes a fourth-place finish, one length behind Sheza Freighttrain T, in the Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from Thursday’s trials will meet in the $400,000-est. LQHBA Sale Futurity final.
