Ronsepi Goes After Fourth Straight Victory On Friday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 9—John Cooper and Ron Hartley’s Ronsepi will go after his fourth win in a row when he faces the always tough Josef Levi in the eighth race allowance on Friday night.

The Separatist gelding has looked great in his three wins, capped by a 3/4 length allowance victory on April 20. The nine-race program will feature another allowance in the fourth race headed by stakes runners Oceanik, Red Dasher, One Famous Ferragamo and Jess Dapper.

In the 2-year-old racing division, Vessels Stallion Farm, J. Garvan Kelly and Nancy Yearsley’s Bon Accord will make his debut in the evening’s third race. The gelded son of Shazoom has been one of the most talked about juveniles this season, especially after equaling the fastest of 55 workouts on the morning of April 17. Bon Accord was bumped and pushed inward during that drill, but still managed to keep up with recent impressive maiden winner Tres Especial in a 220-yard time of :12.0 flat. Clever Me, who had an impressive :12.1 drill also on April 17, will be one Bon Accord’s main foes.

Other top young runners in action include Native TEa Rose and Joy Roses Eagle SA in the second race and Tahiti Cartel, who ran third to Kindergarten Futurity qualifiers Tres Racer and Blackberry Czech, in the seventh.

Ten Ready To Set Sail In La Pacifica Handicap

Terry Thompson and Paul Jones have enjoyed some good times in horse racing since the two struck a friendship after a chance meeting at their gym in 2002.

“I had some horses at the time so we started taking,” Thompson said. “It was the first year that Separatist had babies and I was interested in one. Paul told me about one of his clients that had a Separatist baby. I bought the horse and gave it to Paul to train. We only live about two blocks from each other as well so our families have also become close friends. It’s been a great partnership all around.”

Thompson Racing and Jones will be represented by their newly purchased Sixy Silhouette in Saturday’s $25,000 La Pacifica Handicap at 350 yards. A full field of 10 3-year-old fillies will race in the La Pacifica, including the winning machine Study Hall Pierce and James Smith Handicap runner-up Tac It To Heart.

“We bought her at the Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale with the hopes of racing her and also as a broodmare prospect,” said Thompson of the $36,000 purchase. “She ran second against a horse that Paul trained named Unobeter so that was one of thing that caught our attention. We recently sold our good mare Shenoshercorona to Bobby Cox so we took some of that money and purchased this filly. In her second workout here (on April 14) she broke quickly, but then stated bucking. Paul gave her another workout and she did a lot better that time. We’re looking forward to seeing her in action.”

Shenoshercorona is the mother of some of the partnership’s top runners including Grade 1 winner Favorite Cartel, Kindergarten Futurity finalist Hes Regal, Henoshersecret, who just missed qualifying to this year’s Kindergarten. Like Shenoshercorona, Sixy Silhouette is a daughter of Corona Cartel. Ramon Sanchez will ride her from post five.

Pazazz Quarterhorses Ltd.’s OC City Girl won her last allowance start by a neck and looms like a top threat in this event for trainer Connie Hall. Ed Allred’s Study Hall Pierce is another top contender while coming in with a high performance record of four wins from just six starts. All four of her victories have been by a half length or more at Los Alamitos. PCQHRA Breeders Futurity finalist A First Down Snow is another one to watch.
