PHOENIX, AZ—MARCH 25, 2015—A total of 19 three-year-olds, including local stakes winners Magical Righter and Jess A Cowboy, has been entered in Sunday’s 350-yard Arizona Quarter Racing Association President’s Open Spring Derby trials at Turf Paradise.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the April 19, $10,000-added final.
A brown daughter of the Chicks Beduino stallion Righter, Magical Righter races for Amanda Casper from the barn of trainer Benito Guillen Vega. The filly outran her 12-1 odds to win last year’s Desert Classic Futurity (R) at Turf Paradise.
Magical Righter drew post 8 in the first of two trials and will be ridden by Emilio Tapia.
Jess A Cowboy is a homebred 3-year-old gelding by the Mr Jess Perry stallion Dejon campaigned by Larry Stark and trained by Matt Fales. Campaigned exclusively at Turf Paradise, Jess A Cowboy has earned $25,947 from six outs, and his two wins include a convincing 2 1/2-length victory in the November 2, 350-yard Arizona Quarter Racing Association Futurity (R).
Russell Vicchrilli has been named to ride Jess A Cowboy from the rail post in the second heat.
