Training Races Begin Today at Ruidoso
Ruidoso Downs will host three days of schooling races for two-year-olds preparing for the Grade 1 Ruidoso; Grade 1 Rainbow and Grade 1All American Futurities.

Training Races Begin Today at Ruidoso

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—May 4, 2015—Where is the next all-time leading money earner, All American Futurity winner or the future champions?

Those horses could well be among the record 265 entrants in the training races at Ruidoso Downs. The 44 training races being held today (Monday) through Wednesday.

All-time leading money earner and All American Futurity winner Ochoa, All American Futurity winner Jm Miracle, Texas Classic Futurity winner Kates Dynasty and 10-time Grade 1 competitor Hez Our Secret are all champions and they all competed in the Ruidoso Downs’ training races.

Many of the juveniles with the best breeding in quarter horse racing will be participating from the stables of the sport’s leading trainers. The leading jockeys will be aboard the horses.

The 300-yard training races begin at 8:30 a.m. and are free to the public. A special program will be available to identify the horses. The program will also be offered tomorrow (Saturday) when the Kentucky Derby is simulcast at Ruidoso Downs.

The majority of the horses in the training races will be preparing for the Grade 1, $750,000 Ruidoso Futurity; Grade 1, $1 million Rainbow Futurity and Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity. The All American Futurity offers the largest purse of any two-year-old race in the world and any quarter horse race.

The training races are run on these days so they can serve as final preparation for horses racing in the Ruidoso Futurity trials. The 350-yard Ruidoso Futurity trials will be held on May 22-23. The season begins on May 22 and concludes on Labor Day with the running of the All American Futurity.
