WH Design by Dash goes for fifth straight win in Woodard Memorial Classic at Indiana Grand

SHELBYVILLE, IN—AUGUST 26, 2015—When the fourth all-Quarter Horse Night gets underway at Indiana Grand Saturday, Aug. 29, all eyes will be on WH Design by Dash. Owned by Julia Martin and trained by her husband, Paul, WH Design by Dash has been at the top of his game for the past three months and will try to extend his win streak to five in the seventh running of the $95,900 Bob Woodard Memorial Classic.

Slated as race six on the eight-race card, the Woodard Memorial Classic will showcase older registered Indiana bred Quarter Horses running at a distance of 400 yards. WH Design by Dash was a trial winner on Aug. 15 and will be the one to catch in the 10-horse lineup.

WH Design by Dash will begin from post three for jockey Victor Olivo, who has ridden him in all but one of his 21 previous starts. His current win streak includes victories in the $84,000 Born Runner Stakes and the $34,000 Leader of the Class Stakes. With nine career wins, the four-year-old son of Brimmstone has amassed more than $185,000 in earnings. The 400-yard distance also suits the sorrel gelding, winning six of nine starts at sprint. WH Design by Dash has competed in all of his career starts at Indiana Grand.

Chilled Six Pack and Shanley Jackson will start next to WH Design by Dash in the Woodard Memorial Classic. The six-year-old son of Chilled Corona captured the other trial on Aug. 15 and will be primed and ready to get his second straight win for Jack Laugle and Chris Duke’s Dula Racing. Matt Frazier trains Chilled Six Pack, who is also a multiple stakes winner at Indiana Grand.

Another horse sure to make a big splash in the Woodard Memorial Classic Final is Pistolpacking Pepsi, who finished a swift closing second by one-half length to Chilled Six Pack. Pistolpacking Pepsi, Indiana’s 2014 Horse of the Year, has won two of his five starts this season and has only finished off the board once in those starts. The four-year-old Jesse James Jr. gelding, owned by Robert Ray and Ron Brown, joins four other horses in the field that are stakes winners at Indiana Grand, showing the depth of talent. Of the 10 horses, seven have career earnings in excess of $100,000.

The Woodard Memorial Classic field, in post position order with jockey, includes: Tinys First Pepsi (Rodney Prescott); Firebawl (Tommy Pompell); WH Design by Dash (Victor Olivo); Chilled Six Pack (Shanley Jackson); Fillemup Phil (Cesar Esqueda); DNA Sweet Dale (Giovani Vazquez-Gomez); Pistolpacking Pepsi (Jose Beltran); Eyem Jumpn (Julie Veltman); Bright Eyed Vision (Harold Collins); and I Is It (Jose Ruiz).

Also featured on the all-Quarter Horse Night racing program is four trials for the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity. The trials, listed as races two through five, include some two-year-olds that are already stakes winners this season, such as Megatron Harry, winner of the $199,000 Gordon Mobley Futurity in July. The trials also include several horses who will be attempting their first start in stakes action, creating a broader picture for potential qualifiers for the final.

In addition to the Stallion Service Auction Futurity, two trials for the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Derby will be held as well in races seven and eight. Both the Futurity and Derby Finals are slated for Saturday, Sept. 12, which will be dedicated to Childhood Cancer Awareness as well as a special fundraiser for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF).

Live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing continues with first post set at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Saturday evening racing begins at 6:05 p.m. Thursday racing will return Sept. 17 with a 2:05 p.m. post for the remainder of the 120-day race meet which concludes Saturday, Oct. 31.
