FARMINGTON, NM—MAY 12, 2017—A full field of 10 state-bred 2-year-olds, headed by fastest qualifier Bug Daddy Cartel and morning-line favorite Jans Cartel, has been entered back in Sunday’s 350-yard, $100,000-est. New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park.
Bug Daddy Cartel, a homebred son of second-year sire Big Daddy Cartel, broke his maiden with a neck victory in the last of four trials on April 28. The bay colt drew post 9 and will be ridden by Jaime Parga Leos for trainer Omar Gutierrez.
The sixth-fastest qualifier, Jans Cartel races for Denton Crozier of Hobbs, New Mexico, from the barn of trainer H.G. “Poppy” Aldavaz. The homebred gray daughter of Big Daddy Cartel has earned $21,659 from three outs, and her resume includes a sixth-place finish, 1 3/4 lengths behind winner Moneys A Maker, in the April 8, 300-yard New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Jans Cartel drew post 5 and will be ridden by Jose Luis Enriquez.
Other contenders include Wdc Woody B Fast, a bay gelding by Woodbridge campaigned by Barton Racing Stables LLC and trainer Blake Rust. Wdc Woody B Fast made his debut with a wire-to-wire, one-length victory in the first New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity trial and set the second-fastest qualifying time.
Wdc Woody B Fast will be ridden by Martin Felix from post 7. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:
