CLAREMORE, OK—-SEPTEMBER 6, 2017—Rogelio Marquez Jr.’s Political Attraction, a graded stakes winning son of Apollitical Jess trained by John Weghorst, is one of 86 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s Black Gold 350 Futurity (RG3) trials at Will Rogers Downs.
Political Attraction has won his last two starts, including the 350-yard, $214,000 Speedhorse Futurity (G3) at Fair Meadows at Tulsa on July 29. The sorrel gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by James Flores in the eighth of 11 trials.
Eos A Political Win, a bay Apollitical Jess colt trained by Manuel Almanza Jr. for owner Elite Oilfield Services, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Omar Reyes in the third heat. Eos A Political Win has earned $61,578 from three outs, and he is coming off of a second-place finish, 1 1/2 lengths behind Political Attraction, in the Speedhorse Futurity.
Other prominent 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s trials include The Only Knockout, a bay filly by Apollitical Jess trained by Manuel Mata for owner Five Puig Racing LLC. The Only Knockout has won one of five starts and has banked $101,010, and his resume includes a fourth-place finish, one length behind winner La Vencedora, in the 330-yard, $1.002-million Remington Park Futurity (RG2) for Oklahoma-breds on April 22.
The Only Knockout drew post 8 in the fifth trial and will be ridden by Jesus Salazar.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from Saturday’s trials will meet in the September 24, $133,500-added Black Gold 350 Futurity final.
