ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 26, 2017—A total of 29 Iowa-bred 2-year-olds has been entered in Friday’s 350-yard Jim Bader Futurity (R) trials at Prairie Meadows.
CR Lota Girl, a homebred daughter of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon stallion Lota Pyc racing for Curt Tobin and Dick Tobin, is coming off of a third-place finish, two lengths behind winner Streaks Of Ivory, in the 350-yard, $191,000 Iowa Double Gold Futurity (R) on September 2. The filly has earned $34,378 from six outs while racing at Prairie Meadows, Canterbury Park, and Remington Park.
CR Lota Girl drew post 2 and will be ridden by Brayan Velazquez for trainer Jason Olmstead in the first of four trials.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the October 14, $175,000-est. Jim Bader Futurity final.
Also on Friday, Born To B Bad is one of 35 sophomores entered in four 400-yard Altoona Derby trials.
Trained by Tammy Johnson for owners Melissa Slayton and Cody Bowling, Born To B Bad is a homebred son of Freighttrain B. The gelding is coming off of a summer campaign during which he scored a neck victory as the odds-on favorite in the 350-yard, $67,000 Speedhorse Derby at Fair Meadows at Tulsa on July 29.
Benito Baca will ride Born To B Bad in the second trial.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $120,000-est. Altoona Derby final on October 14.
