Moneys A Maker Returns in New Mexico Cup Futurity Trials

HOBBS, NM—OCTOBER 11, 2017—Moneys A Maker, a graded stakes winning son of Sixes Royal owned by Enrique Barrera, is one of 62 state-bred 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s 400-yard New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) trials at Zia Park.

Trained by Cynthia Gonzalez, Moneys A Maker will be making his first start since June 2, when he ran second in a 350-yard Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) trial at Ruidoso Downs. The gray gelding has earned $181,422 from four outs, and his two wins include a neck victory in the April 8, 300-yard New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.

Moneys A Maker drew the rail post and will be ridden by Mauro Salcedo in the first of seven trials.

Mason A. King’s Regard The Rose will put her undefeated record on the line in the fourth heat. A daughter of the Chicks Beduino stallion Chicks Regard, the filly has won all three of her starts and is coming off of a three-quarter length victory in the August 13, 400-yard Arapahoe Park Futurity at Arapahoe Park.

Manuel Gutierrez will ride Regard The Rose for trainer Juan Chavez Ortega.

Other prominent New Mexico-bred juveniles entered in the New Mexico Cup Futurity trials include Nolans Theory, Hollywoodcrown, and Osbaldo Blue Diamond. A gray son of Chicks Regard trained by Harvey Baeza for owners Bob and Sissie McClure, Nolans Theory has won two of his five starts, including the 400-yard, $50,000 By By JJ Stakes (R) at Ruidoso Downs on July 29.

Nolans Theory drew post 2 and will be ridden by Oscar Cordova in the fifth trial.

Hollywoodcrown drew post 6 and will be ridden by Alfredo Sigala for owner Fred Danley, who also trains the homebred Heza Motor Scooter filly. Hollywoodcrown is coming off of a third-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Jess Hot, in the September 23, 400-yard New Mexico State Fair Futurity (RG3) at Albuquerque Downs.

Osbaldo Blue Diamond is a homebred gray daughter of Osbaldo trained by Javier Roman Jr. for owner Hubaldo Solis of Peralta, New Mexico. The filly has earned $43,334 from eight outs, and her resume includes a second-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind Wdc Woody B Fast, in the May 14, 350-yard New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the October 29, $325,000-est. New Mexico Cup Futurity final.
