Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity Is Feature Race On Closing Program Of 2017 Meet

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—DECEMBER 15, 2017—Two of the top contenders to California's richest annual horse race of any breed, the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, will bookend the field when 10 juveniles compete in the 400 dash on Sunday night. First post time is 5:28 p.m.

Starting from post number one will be Darling Farms, Jaime Gomez and Ernesto Solis' brilliant filly J Fire Up, the winner of the Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity and Governor's Cup Futurity, while Reliance Ranches' Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity fastest qualifier Call Me Cole will start from the outside post number 10 for trainer Mike Robbins.

The Two Million is the ninth and final race on the meet's closing night program. It's set for 8:56 p.m.

J Fire Up should love her inside post. She won the Governor's Cup Futurity from along the rail and nearly beat the undefeated KVN Corona after starting from post number one when running second in the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity.

It's not just the number one post that's treated her well. J Fire Up also looked great when posting the second fastest qualifying time to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity after starting from post number two. She won the Golden State Million Futurity from that number two post as well. Jaime Gomez has the Kiddy Up filly in the perfect spot as far as he's concerned.

"I like the one post for her," he said. "She's a classy filly and she's quick." Jose Nicasio will ride the Gomez-bred J Fire Up, who'll be going after her seventh win in nine starts.

With leading Quarter Horse rider Jesus Rios Ayala up, Call Me Cole will go after his fourth win in five outings as Los Alamitos. He won his trial to the Golden State Million Futurity and was 2-¼ length win in his Two Million Futurity trial. And when it came to selecting the post positions at the special draw for this race held on Wednesday afternoon, Robbins placed the Corona Cartel colt in post 10 with one of the early picks.

"He's a big horse and he'll like the extra room out there," Robbins said. "He's big, but my other horse in this race, Peighnt Your Fate is even bigger. He's about half a hand taller and about 50 pounds heavier."

The Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity field from the rail is:

  1. J Fire Up
  2. Moonie Blues
  3. Remember The Rose
  4. On Our Way
  5. Jess My Kiss
  6. Ditto Head
  7. Matilda Czech
  8. Scoopie Jess
