SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 20, 2018—Recent maiden winners Coco Jess Perry and CD Rowdy James are among the 100 2-year-olds entered in Friday’s 300-yard West Texas Futurity (G2) trials at Sunland Park.

A sorrel son of Mr Jess Perry owned by Oscar Vasquez Arenivar, Coco Jess Perry made his career debut with a wire-to-wire, three-quarter length victory in a 300-yard maiden-special-weight dash at Sunland Park on March 2. The gelding was a $23,000 purchase at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, and he is out of Cocopata, a graded stakes winning daughter of Walk Thru Fire.

Coco Jess Perry drew post 2 and will be ridden by Raul Herrera for trainer Jose Gonzalez Sr. in the first of 10 trials.

CD Rowdy James races for German Amaya from the barn of trainer Juan M. Esquivel. A bay son of Ivory James, the colt is coming off of a wire-to-wire, half-length win in a 300-yard maiden-special-weight race on March 2.

CD Rowdy James drew post 4 and will be ridden by Jose Enrique Ortiz in the second heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the April 14, $100,000-added West Texas Futurity final.
