Heritage Place Futurity Morning-Line Favorite Is Aqua Flash

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 30, 2018—The richest race in Oklahoma racing, the Grade 1, $1,024,840 Heritage Place Futurity, is set for Saturday night, June 2 at Remington Park. The field of 10 eligible qualifiers entered the 350-yard event this morning with Aqua Flash tabbed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite.

The Heritage Place Futurity is the headline event on a 12-race program featuring eight stakes races on Saturday, the final night of the 2018 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park. The “Mega-Card” night of racing carries total purses of $2,271,230. The record for the “Mega-Card” night of racing is $2,335,670 set in 2015.

The first race on “Mega-Card” night this Saturday is at 5pm-Central.

Owned by Thomas Scheckel of Bellevue, Iowa and trained by Shawna Manriquez, Aqua Flash was the top qualifier on the first night of Heritage Place Futurity trials, Friday, May 11. The 2-year-old filly is undefeated thru her two starts this season at Remington Park. Regular jockey Tanner Thedford will have the mount on the Utah-bred daughter of First Moonflash.

Aqua Flash won her trial by a widening 1-ľ lengths, defeating Symbol Of Faith who also qualified for the Heritage Place Futurity. Symbol Of Faith’s trial time was the fifth-fastest on the first evening of trials, just getting her into the final.

VF Jedi Returns, a three-time winner this season and runner-up in the $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile in April, is the second-choice in the morning-line. Odds-maker Jerry Shottenkirk assigned the gelding at 3-1 odds. Owned by Julio Contreras of Laredo, Texas and trained by Sammy Valdivia, VF Jedi Returns was the fastest qualifier on the second night of Heritage Place Futurity trials on Saturday, May 12. Jockey G.R. Carter will have the mount on the Oklahoma-bred by High Rate of Return, who won the 2011 Heritage Place Futurity as the highlight of his racing career.

  • Race 7 - $100,000, Grade 1, Junos Request Stakes, 400yds
  • Race 8 - $50,000, Grade 3 (restricted) Easy Jet Stakes, 350yds
  • Race 9 - $363,790, Grade 2, Heritage Place Derby, 400yds
  • Race 11 - $250,000, Grade 1, Remington Park Championship, 440yds
  • Race 12 - $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile

The final three race dates of the 2018 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park take place Thursday thru Saturday, May 31-June 2. The first race on Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1 will begin at 6pm. The opening race on the final night, Saturday, June 2, starts at 5pm.
