Twisted Sifter Headlines Cypress Handicap On Friday Night; Guce Back In Action

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JANUARY 22, 2019—Ronnie Brooks Keller's Twisted Sifter, the nation's leading Quarter Horse in wins in 2018 after scoring in eight of his 12 starts, will headline Friday's running of the $25,000 Cypress Handicap at Los Alamitos. The Cypress rescheduled for tonight after being cancelled due to electrical issue with the lights on January 18.

To be ridden by Jonathan Roman for trainer Roman Figueroa, Twisted Sifter looks to continue his outstanding 2018 season in which he won three stakes races while rising from the maiden ranks to a major contender in the stakes division at Los Alamitos. Twisted Sifter will start from post five in the Cypress at 350 yards.

Multiple graded stakes finalist Scoopie Jess is also back in the Cypress, but with new connections since last Friday night. The gelding by One Sweet Jess has moved from the barn of Bret Vickery to that of his new trainer Jose Hernandez Jr. for the Scoopie Inc. Corporation. Eduardo Nicasio was scheduled to ride Scoopie Jess last Friday and retains the mount for this race. Ed Allred's Well Good, who has finished in the top three in 20 of 25 career starts, plus recent allowance winners Jazzy Icon and Apollitical Wagon will join JD Wagon Boss in this race.

Ramon Guce, Track's All-Time Leading Thoroughbred Jockey, Returns To Riding At Los Alamitos

Ramon Guce, the all-time leading Thoroughbred rider at Los Alamitos, will make his first riding appearance since July 30, 2017 when he pilots the Thoroughbred Snow Kitty in the second race here on Friday night. He'll also pilot the Golden Gate shipper Hong Kong Cowboy in the third race.

Guce was sidelined after being involved in a riding accident in the first race on July 30, which left in a lot of pain around his previously fractured C2 and C7 cervical vertebrae and his T1 vertebrae located at the top of his thoracic spine.
