SUNLAND PARK, NMvJANUARY 23, 2019vA dozen aged sprinters, topped by morning-line favorite Eye N Capo, have been entered in Saturday’s 350-yard, $50,000 Rio Grande Handicap at Sunland Park.

Eye N Capo will be making his first-ever start at Sunland off of his neck victory as the 2-5 favorite in the 350-yard, $20,000 Sam’s Town Stakes at Evangeline Downs on December 15. A 5-year-old Capo de Capi gelding trained by Josue Ponce for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayor, Eye N Capo has won nine of 16 starts and has earned $465,910.

Eye N Capo has been assigned to carry top weight of 128 pounds by racing secretary Gerald Richards. The gelding drew post 10 and will be ridden by Jesse Levario.

Other contenders include R H Resources’ Papaws Paint, a 4-year-old Pyc Paint Your Wagon gelding trained by Todd Fincher. Papaws Paint is coming off of a sophomore campaign during which he ran third in both the All American (G1) and Rainbow (G1) derbies at Ruidoso Downs.

Papaws Paint drew post 4 and will be ridden by Bonifacio Perez.
