Stakes winner Jess Adalida will be one of two starters for trainer Josue Ponce in Thursday’s 350-yard, $15,000 Selma Stakes, the opening-night feature at Retama Park.

SELMA, TX—JULY 2, 2019—A full field of 10 fillies and mares has been entered in Thursday’s 350-yard, $15,000 Selma Stakes, the opening-night feature at Retama Park.

Trainer Josue Ponce will send out two contenders, Jess Adalida and Mystical Jess. A 4-year-old daughter of Apollitical Jess owned by Ruben Garcia Montemayor, Jess Adalida will be dropping in class off of her second-place finish, a head behind winner As And Js, in the 400-yard, $100,000 Junos Request Stakes (G2) at Remington Park on June 1.

Jess Adalida drew post 7 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez.

Mystical Jess is a 4-year-old Apollitical Jess mare owned by Juan Lozano Jr. Mystical Jess has earned $18,850 from three starts this year, and she scored a half-length victory in the 330-yard, $25,000 Miss Sam Houston Stakes (R) at Sam Houston Race Park on April 26.

Mystical Jess drew post 8 and will be ridden by Jose R. Herbert.
