PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 14, 2021—Diamond Racing Stables’ For The Irony, a multiple stakes winning daughter of world champion Apollitical Jess and the fastest qualifier, will put her perfect record on the line in Tuesday’s 350-yard, $77,093 Arizona QRA Turf Paradise Open Spring Derby.
A $20,000 purchase at the 2019 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, For The Irony has earned $95,662 from five races, and her two wins include last year’s 350-yard, $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational Stakes, and the 400-yard, $100,000 Rainbow Juvenile Invitational Stakes, both at Ruidoso Downs. The filly drew post 9 and will be Adrian Ramos for trainer Eric Valenzuela.
Other contenders include Ricardo M. Ramirez’ AJs On Time, a sorrel son of Apollitical Jess trained by Jesus Olivas-Valenzuela. AJs On Time has won two of nine outs and has banked $74,628, and his resume includes a second-place finish, a nose behind winner Speed Dynasty, in last year’s 400-yard, $256,000 La Fiesta Futurity at Albuquerque Downs.
AJs On Time drew post 5 and will be ridden by Luis Valenzuela.
