PHOENIX, AZ–APRIL 8, 2024–Seventeen state-bred 3-year-olds, led by stakes winner Higher Heat, are entered in Thursday's 350-yard Arizona QRA Derby (R) trials at Turf Paradise.
Higher Heat is a homebred son of the A Regal Choice stallion Heat Warning racing for Ralph and Carolyn Fales and trained by their son, Matt Fales. The bay gelding has earned $31,690 from two races this season, and his two wins include the 300-yard, $34,000 Desert Classic Derby (R) at Turf Paradise on February 15.
Higher Heat drew post 7 and will be ridden by Cerapio Figueroa in the second of two trials.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from Thursday's trials will meet in the May 2, $45,000-added AQRA Derby final.
