Thirty-Six State-Bred 3-Year-Olds Entered in Remington Park Derby Trials

Thirty-Six State-Bred 3-Year-Olds Entered in Remington Park Derby Trials

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 11, 2023–Graded stakes winners RJ Having Fun and Cardiac Cowboy lead a group of 36 Oklahoma-bred sophomores entered in Saturday's 400-yard Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby (RG1) trials at Remington Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Saturday's four heats will meet in the $150,000-est. final on April 27.

RJ Having Fun has earned $263,738 from seven races, and he ended his 2-year-old season with a three-race win streak that included a head victory in the 400-yard, $449,000 Dash For Cash Futurity (G2) at Lone Star Park in October. Toby Keeton trains the Pyc Fun N Fancy gelding for owner Corinna Sosa.

RJ Having Fun drew post 2 and will be ridden by Juan Pulido in the first trial.

Cardiac Cowboy races for Jo Rice from the barn of trainer Jason Olmstead. A homebred son of Flying Cowboy 123, the brown gelding banked $196,610 from seven outs last season, and he scored a half-length win in the 350-yard, $204,000 Valley Junction Futurity (G3) at Prairie Meadows.

Cardiac Cowboy also was a finalist in Oklahoma's richest horse race, the June 3, $1.208-million Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park.

Cardiac Cowboy drew post 3 and will be ridden by Edwin Escobedo in the second heat.
