NEW ORLEANS, LA—SEPTEMBER 5, 2019—The Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association (LQHBA) will award two $1,000 scholarships to further the education of Louisiana students on Saturday, September 7th at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans.
The final day of the 2019 Quarter Horse racing season at the Fair Grounds will feature five quality stakes on Saturday's card, including the $428,475 LQHBA Sale Futurity(RG1).
The scholarship drawings will be awarded as part of the very special day saluting accredited Louisiana-bred racehorses. Scholarship entrants must be a Louisiana High School graduate or a Louisiana High School student graduating in 2019 planning to attend a higher education institution.
Those eligible may sign up at the LQHBA Scholarship Registration Table in the Valet Lobby at 11:00 a.m. (CDT). Registration closed after Race 1 (12:05 p.m.) and two names will be pulled for the two (2) $1,000 scholarship's after Race 5 has be completed (1:40 p.m.) in the winner's circle. Participants must be present to win.
While the primary goal of the LQHBA is to promote breeding and racing in the state, the association remains dedicated to furthering higher education for Louisiana youth. The scholarship program was the vision of the late Jim Mitchell and Leverne Perry and is supported strongly by the LQHBA and its board members. Since its inception in 2001, the LQHBA scholarship program has earmarked close to $600,000 for Louisiana students to attend a higher education institution.
Pairing the LQHBA Scholarship drawings at Louisiana’s major Quarter Horse racing events continues to be a success for the organization.
"Our association will continue to offer scholarship drawings at each of the Louisiana racetracks" said Bruce Salard, LQHBA executive director. "We want to support students statewide who wish to further their education at the university level. This will be an exciting evening with record-setting stakes purses on the card; we look forward to welcoming Louisiana students and their parents to Fair Grounds Race Course on Saturday, September 7."
