Zia Park Opens 2019 Season With Five Trials for Grade 2 Hobbs America Futurity

HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 18, 2019—Forty-seven 2-year-olds have been entered in Saturday’s 400-yard Hobbs America Futurity (G2) trials, as Zia Park opens its 2019 racing season with a nine-race program, starting at noon (MDT).

Valentina Relentless, a daughter of leading first-crop sire Hes Relentless, will bring a three-race win streak into the third trial (Race 5) for owner Kenia Pinela Marioni. Ramon Mendoza conditions the Oklahoma-bred filly out of Ba Little Mini by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.

The sorrel filly is a two-time futurity winner this season while banking $52,368. Making her first start outside Utah in Saturday's Zia trials, she won the Golden Spike Futurity and the Hadley/Giles Futurity at Weber Downs. She has not started sine June 1. Veteran jockey Esgar Ramirez will ride from outside post 9.

All American Juvenile runner-up Cers Final Try (3-2) will head Race 8, the last of five trials, for trainer Tony Sedillo. The Oklahoma-homebred racing for owner Christina D. Robinson has banked $47,970 this season off a (7) 2-2-1 record.

Bred by Charles Robinson, the son of world champion and champion sire One Dashing Eagle broke his maiden at Ruidoso in June and also won his Rainbow Futurity trial but failed to qualify. He is out of the Corona Cartel mare Bp Shes All Corona. Tanner Thedford has been named to ride from post 8.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the October 13, $250,000-est. Hobbs America Futurity final.
