Twenty-Two Sophomores Entered in AQRA Turf Paradise Open Derby Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 28, 2021—Katella Avenue, a gelded son of champion Foose owned and trained by Valentin Zamudio, is one of 22 3-year-olds entered in Thursday’s 400-yard Arizona QRA Turf Paradise Open Derby trials at Turf Paradise Racetrack.

A finalist in the October 2, $122,000 PCQHRA Breeders’ Derby (G3) at Los Alamitos, Katella Avenue will be making his first-ever start outside of California. The gelding has earned $27,664 from 18 starts, of which $24,182 has been banked from 11 outs this season.

Katella Avenue drew post 3 and will be ridden by Ruben Lozano in the first of three trials.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Thursday’s trials will meet in the December 23, $35,000-added AQRA Turf Paradise Open Derby final.
