RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—SEPTEMBER 4, 2017—Ruidoso Horse Sale Company held it's annual Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale September 1-3 in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico and recorded a significant increase over last year in gross, average and median.

The curtain dropped on Sunday's final session with 308 of the 429 yearlings offered grossing $13,169,000, a 9% increase compared to 334 yearlings selling for $12,013,400 in 2016.

The average took a significant 16% increase to $42,756 over last year's $35,968. The median enjoyed a 4% rise to $27,000 over $26,000 in 2016.

Six figure yearlings selling in the three sessions have totaled 27. Ten sold for $200,000 or more and two yearlings topped the $310,000 threshold.

The partnership of Adame Racing LLC, Benny and Terrie Jeter, Dena Todd and Douglas Traylor paid $320,000 Saturday night for the sale's high-seller, Hip 110 A Galaxy Guardian. The Corona Cartel colt is from the champion mare Higher Fire by Walk Thru Fire. Julianna Hawn Holt consigned the brother to Grade 1-placed Highest Fire and stakes-placed Grade 1 finalist Corona The Cat.

Also on Saturday, Clyde Wilmott paid $310,000 for Hip 75, a Mr Jess Perry colt out of stakes-winner and multiple stakes producer Rustys Quickid by Royal Quick Dash. Consigned by Roger Daly, Agent for Burnett Ranches LLC/Wilmott, Streakin Rusty is a brother to multiple stakes horses including Grade 1 winner Jessa Little Rusty.

The sale's third high seller, Hip 340 Famous Strong Eagle, sold in the final session to Jose J. and Pedro Aguado Espinosa for $240,000. Grants Farms, LLC consigned the son of leading sire One Famous Eagle out of the Grade 1 winning Strawfly Special mare Strength In Numbers. She is the dam of five stakes horses including 2017 Ruidoso Juvenile winner Mr Perry Strong.

Paragon Farms LLC was the sale's leading buyer with nine purchases grossing $1,047,000. Manuel Rodriguez had four head for $525,000 and Rachuan Suarez paid $397,500 for 17 head.

Julianna Hawn Holt was the leading consignor or agent with 12 head grossing $1,683,000. Bobby D. Cox had 20 head ring $970,000 and Burns Ranch, Agent sold 20 head for $928,500.

One Famous Eagle was the leading sale sire, by average with two or more sold, with 27 head sold averaging $68,148. Corona Cartel had 28 yearling average $66,929 and Apollitical Jess sold 14 yearlings for $60,538.
