Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale Kicks Off With $200,000 Hes Relentless Foal-In-Utero

Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale Kicks Off With $200,000 Hes Relentless Foal-In-Utero

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–JANUARY 18, 2024–The first sale of the year, the Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale, started with Horton Racing LLC engaging in a bidding duel for a $200,000 Hes Relentless foal-in-utero. 

The prospective 2024 foal (Hip 161) out of the great Apollitical Jess race mare Lynnder 16, winner of 21 races and $874,037, was consigned by Shamrock Ranch (Tom Mayer).  The impending foal should arrive next month.

"We had a great first day for the 2024 Winter Mixed Sale," Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said late Thursday.  "Horses sold were off 3% compared to the same day last year with 80% of the horses sold.  We had a big crowd on hand and look forward to the next two days."

Heritage Place reported 207 of the 258 horses on offer day 1 sold for gross receipts of $2,959,600, down slightly from 235 head sold a year ago for $4,635,000. An average price of $19,129 this year is compared to $19,723 on day 1 in 2023. The median on day 1 ended at $12,000 down from $13,000 on the same day last year.

Thursday's second high-seller Hip 91 A Lucky Ladie was purchased by Slash Z Quarter Horses LLC for $150,000. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent consigned the multiple Grade 1 finalist by champion sire Good Reason SA. The 4-year-old filly in training is from the family of champion Inseperable.

Hip 59 San Lorenzeaux and Hip 319 Wood Dee Queen tied for the third high-seller on day 1 when each brought a final bid of $130,000.

Juan Urias purchased San Lorenzeaux, a restricted grade 1 winning son of Carters Cartel from the consignment of Spring Hill Farms. The five-time winner has earned $613,700.

Dillon Lane purchased Wood Dee Queen, a 4-year-old RG2-placed daughter of leading sire Eye Am King from the Lazy E Ranch, Agent for Doug May. A winner of 3 races, Wood Dee Queen, who sold in training, has banked $202,183.

Juan Urias led all buyers on day 1 with two purchases for $215,000. Horton Racing LLC had the one purchase for $200,000, Slash Z Quarter Horses LLC had one for $150,00 and Tungsten Racing signed two tickets for $150,000.

Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent was the opening session leading consignor or agent with 23 head for gross receipts of $652,400. Marty Powers, Agent sold 15 head for $378,500 and Dunn Ranch, Agent handled seven head for $295,500.

Flying Cowboy 123 was the leading covering sire on day 1 (by average, 2 or more sold) with three in-foal mares averaging $46,667. Cyber Monday sold three in-foal mares for a $21,000 average and Chilitos had two in-foal mares average $15,500.

Jess Good Candy was the leading short-yearling sire on day 1 (by average, 2 or more sold) with three head for $15,833. Dulce Sin Tacha had two short-yearlings average $9,750 and Ryder Rite had two head average $9,000.

Friday's second session will get underway at 10:00 a.m. (CST) and will feature Hips 326 thru 649. Breeding's Dulce Sin Tacha, Jess Good Candy, Cyber Attack, Flying Cowboy 123 and Kiss My Hocks will be sold Friday to benefit the Sam Thompson Foundation.

OQHRA will hold a reception, with live entertainment by Way Out West Band in the restaurant and club immediately following Friday's session.

Saturday's closing session will get underway promptly at 10:00 a.m. offering Hips 650 thru 975.
