BOSSIER CITY, LA—MAY 16, 2012—Starting on Wednesday, May 26 at Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) you can learn the ins-and-outs of horse racing from Travis Stone, the track announcer at Louisiana Downs. The course, which is open to the public, is called “Horse Racing: Finding Winners” and gives racing fans a crash course in how to handicap the horse races.
“Horse racing is fun and challenging once you learn the basics. This course was created with the beginner in mind but will be helpful to anyone who enjoys the sport,” said Stone.
The course takes place every Wednesday evening from May 23 through June 27 from 6-8pm and costs just $69 to attend. It’s open to anyone 21-year-olds or older.
“We’ll cover a lot of ground, but it will be fun. Each week we’ll use what we learn to handicap an upcoming race including big races like the Belmont Stakes,” said Stone.
Stone, an avid horseplayer and handicapper, will also provide unique insight into the racing at Louisiana Downs where he has served as track announcer since 2006.
Those who take the course will receive free box seats to enjoy the races at Louisiana Downs and can also take a trip to the sixth floor and watch a race from the announcer’s booth.
