Q-RACING JOURNAL—MAY 28, 2013—Champion trainer Paul Jones has reached the milestone of $70 million in earnings.
The 11-time Blane Schvaneveldt Champion Trainer on May 27 saddled Joan Dale Hubbard’s homebred Storm Chasor to win a Ruidoso allowance, putting the trainer over the earnings mark.
Jones has now trained the earners of $70,002,780.
Already this year, the trainer has earnings of $937,622, putting him second on this year’s the list by earnings.
Jones is already the sport’s all-time leading trainer by money earned, and just continues to extend his lead. The next closest is Blane Schvaneveldt, whose trainees earned more than $55.3 million. Jones began training in 1990, and earned his first nod as champion trainer in 2002, the same year he won his first Champion of Champions (G1) with Whosleavingwho. As of May 27, Jones had trained the winners of 3,556 races from 18,927 starts, and sat second by wins in the trainer standings, behind Schvaneveldt’s possibly unbeatable 5,186 record.
Jones has trained All American Futurity (G1) winners Teller Cartel, No Secrets Here and Runnning Brook Gal. His other Champion of Champions winners include Good Reason SA, Rylees Boy, Wave Carver, The Down Side and Cash For Kas.
