OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 8, 2017—On Friday (May 5) Remington Park stewards issued "Summary Suspensions of Occupation Licensee" notices to eight people.
Owner-trainers Cosme Velasquez, Julianna Nicole Mancillas, Monse Melendez-Chavez, Salimm Hernandez-Ortiz, Alfred Morris Gomez, Kasey Leon Willis; trainers Simon Alberto Moreno-Rodriguez, and owner Mary Helen Meza all had horses, according to the stewards, that tested positive for clenbuterol through urine sample testing conducted by Industrial Laboratories in Colorado. Hernandez-Ortiz was cited with two positives.
Horse named in the notices all won the races in question with two winning on April 20, one on April 21 and three each on April 22 and April 23.
Suspensions began Friday (May 5) and the licensees are not permitted on the grounds at Remington Park or any other track controlled by the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission, pending results of a hearing scheduled Tuesday (May 9).
Remington Park's chief steward Michael Corey told TRACK Magazine's Ben Hudson that two of the trainers have entered "no contest" pleas for these offenses.
Additional information will be reported as it becomes available.
