ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 29, 2017—According to an article published Monday on the PaulickReport.com, Quarter Horse trainer Kenneth Laymone his assistant Victor Ibarra and veterinarian Verlin Jones have been summarily suspended by Stewards at Prairie Meadows.
The three were suspended after an assistant was seen by track security Victoria Palmer hiding syringes in the barn area.
A stewards' ruling earlier this week said Palmer was conducting a barn patrol when she saw Ibarra place something behind a bale of hay. After Ms. Palmer asked him to give her what he just stuffed behind the bale, two syringes encased in bubble wrap were handed over containing 12 ml of an unknown red substance.
When questioned, Ibarra told Palmer that veterinarian Verlin Jones had given him the syringes and said to hide them.
Iowa regulations state "a person found within or in the immediate vicinity of a security stall who is in possession of unauthorized drugs or hypodermic needles or who is not authorized to possess drugs or hypodermic needles shall, in addition to any other penalties, be barred from entry into any racetrack in Iowa and any occupational license the person holds shall be revoked."
