Jockey Martin Bourdieu Undergoes Surgery on Broken Leg After Spill

PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 27, 2018—According to a published report on DailyRacingForm.com, jockey Martin Bourdieu broke his leg, several ribs and sustained two punctured lungs in a spill at Turf Paradise on Saturday.

The 44-year-old leading Quarter Horse rider was aboard the 5-year-old Royal Quick Dash mare Starz Decoy in a 300-yard Quarter Horse allowance race for trainer Matthew Fales.

According the report Bourdieu's mount clipped the heels of Matts Corona, unseating the rider. Bourdieu was taken to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery for a broken femur. Track officials said he may also require surgery on his lungs and ribs.

Matts Corona, ridden by jockey Luis Yescas, Jr., was disqualified for interference and placed last.
