LQHBA Yearling Sale Soars Across-the-Board On Day 1

KINDER, LA–AUGUST 5, 2022–The opening day session of the LQHBA Yearling Sale today (AUG 5) can be described as impressive. Numbers climbed in gross, average, and median to kick off the first of two sessions of the association’s annual yearling sale held in Kinder.

At the close of the first day of business, 213 of 247 horses offered sold for gross receipts of $4,049,200, a 13% increase compared to last year’s opening session. Today’s average price of $19,010 was up 25% over last year’s $15,190 and the median rose to $13,000, a 21% increase over the $10,700 median on day 1 last year.

"With topped ranked national sires and several first-crop sale sires standing in Louisiana there were many options for yearling buyers to consider this year," LQHBA Executive Directors Bruce Salard said Friday evening. "The 'Oaks' additions next year at Louisiana Downs and Delta Downs provided incentives to prospective filly buyers."

Vista Del Sol Quarter Horses Inc. paid $150,000 for Friday’s high-seller, Hip 253 Playin With Fyre, a son of leading sire Apollitical Blood. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Simmons Racing consigned the half-brother to the nation’s leading 2-year-old, two-time graded stakes winner Tres Crystals. The bay colt is out of Grade 3 winner Crystal Sola by Walk Thru Fire.

Trey Ellis, Agent, signed a $145,000 ticket for second high-seller Tf One Dashin Clown, a colt by world champion One Dashing Eagle from the multiple stakes producing Mr Jess Perry mare Dashadee. Tate Farms, LLC half-brother to four black type including Grade 2 winners TF Cajun Cartel and TF Ms Special Perry.

The high selling filly in session 1, and third highest-seller Friday Hip 200 Traininthefastlane, was purchased for $128,000 by Mike Peclevsen. S & E Sales Prepping, LLC, Agent for Runnin Broke Ranch consigned Freightrain B filly out of multiple RG2 winner Pantherinthefastlane, dam of RG2 winner Lifeinthefastlanes stakes-placed and RG1 finalist Apolliticalfastlane.

Vista Del Sol Quarter Horses Inc. was the leading buyer in the first session with four purchases grossing $244,000. Trey Ellis, Agent had two for $170,000 and Jose R. Espinosa had two totaling $145,000.

Grant Farms, LLC was the leading consignor or agent on day 1 with 19 yearlings grossing $466,300. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent sold 11 head for $302,700 and Tate Farms, LLC had eight gross 4226,400. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for other individual consignors also landed the 5th, 7th and 9th leading consignor or agent spots on day 1.

Heza Fast Dash was the opening session leading sale sire (by average, two or more sold) with two yearlings averaging $59,750. Apollitical Blood had nine for $53,889 and One Dashing Eagle sold seven for a $37,357 average.

Champion Tarzanito was the leading first-crop sale sire  (by average, two or more sold) with five head averaging $17,800. Rip Tide had six for $16,250 and Eagle Deluxe had nine yearlings average $9,916.

Saturday's session will feature hips 283 thru 573 with a 10:00 am (CDT) start.
