KINDER, LA–AUGUST 4, 2023–Four colts took the high-seller spots on day 1 of the 46th Annual LQHBA Yearling Sale in Kinder, Louisiana
The high-seller and only six-figure yearling in the first session, Hip 100 Gold Gun Z, was purchased for $122,000 by Jerry Deville.
The son of first sale-crop sire Gold Heart Eagle V was consigned by Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Slash Z Quarter Horses. Out of Cf Smokin Gun, by Tres Seis, Gold Gun Z is a half-brother to Remington Park Juvenile winner Relentless Gun.
"We had a large energetic crowd and expect the enthusiasm to continue for the Saturday Session," LQHBA Executive Director Bruce Salard said Friday evening. "The Sports Gaming and Video Poker funding has resulted in a 2024 Forecast of purse increases at all four Louisiana Tracks."
LQHBA reported 209 horses traded hands from the 269 through the ring Friday for gross receipts of $3,449,300. The average price of $16,503 fell from $19,010 on opening day last year for 213 sold. The median price rose 9% to $11,700 compared to $10,700 on day 1 in 2022. There were 60 horses who failed to attain their reserve, representing an RNA rate of 28%.
All yearlings passing through the sale are eligible for the $1,000,000 2024 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1) at Evangeline Downs.
Luis Roberto Lozano paid $92,000 for Hip 272 Daylight, a colt by leading sire Apollitical Blood from the stakes-placed Game Patriot mare Non Stop Patriot. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent consigned the brown colt from the family champion Apollitical Time.
Friday's third high-seller, Hip 89 Louisiana Dee Light, was purchased for $82,000 by Rancho El 48 from the Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Simmons Ranch consignment. The son of champion Five Bar Cartel is out of the Tres Seis mare Peaceful Delight, a G2-finalist half-sister to world champion Be A Bono and RG1 winner Peace Fire.
Tate Farms, Agent for Down South Racing, consigned the session 1 high-selling filly, Hip 181 Tf Shes Jess Dashin. Jerry Deville paid $52,000 for the One Dashing Eagle dughter from the first crop of Lassie Futurity(RG2) winner Tf Shez Jess Dashin. This is the family of champions Special Leader, Old Habits, Hateful Hanna, Solvency and Your First Moon.
Jerry Deville led all buyers in the first session by gross with nine purchases for $385,000. Ranch El 48 had six tickets for $214,500 and LA Racing Stables LLC made six purchases for $121,200.
Grant Farms, LLC was the leading consignor and/or agent on day 1 with 17 head for $427,400 gross receipts. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent had 15 head total $327,700 and Bobby D. Cox saw nine yearlings gross $156,200. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for specific consignors were also the 5th and 9th leading consignors on day 1.
Apollitical Blood was the first session leading sire by average (two or more sold) with nine yearlings averaging $42,056. Five Bar Cartel had three for $35,167 average and first sale-crop sire Gold Heart Eagle V had 10 yearlings average $29,770 on day 1.
