Paragon Farms paid $240,000 for Hip 529 Famous Train, the high-seller at the 2023 LQHBA Yearling Sale in Kinder, Louisiana.

KINDER, LA–AUGUST 5, 2023–The summer sale season kept rolling Saturday (August 5) at the LQHBA Yearling Sale in Kinder, Louisiana.  The day was bolstered by a colt by world champion sire Freighttrain B, realizing $240,000 from buyer Paragon Farms.

Grant Farms, LLC consigned Hip 529 Famous Train, a half-brother to four black type including Southwest Juvenile Championship(G1) winner Jest Famous, from the family of champion and leading sire One Famous Eagle.

"Louisiana based broodmares coupled with a strong Louisiana based stallion roster led to a successful sale for consignors and buyers,” LQHBA Executive Director Bruce Salard said Saturday night.

LQHBA reported 432 horses of the 537 to go under the hammer sold for gross receipts of $7,654,100, a 7% decrease over the previous year. The average price also decreased by 6.8% to $17,718 and the median of $12,000 was down 11%.  There were 105 horses who failed to meet their reserve, representing an RNA rate of 19.55%.

Bobby Cox paid $130,000 for Saturday's second high-seller, Hip 306 Right Down Broadway. Run Bayou Ranch consigned the Freighttrain B colt out of Shakemupperry by Mr Jess Perry. The colt is a half-brother to LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(G1) winner You Drive I Fly. This is the family of champion Shake The Bank.

Bobby D. Cox sold Saturday's third high-seller, Hip 407 Hasta La Fuego, for $98,000 to Luis Roberto Lozano. Also by Freighttrain B, the bay colt is the first foal of the G3-placed Walk Thru Fire mare Madam Of Fire Mv. This is the family of three-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty.

Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent consigned the sale's high-selling filly Hip 423 Rogues Gold Eagle. Jerry Deville paid $84,000 for the daughter of first sale-crop sire Gold Heart Eagle V from the restricted Grade 2 winning Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Rogue.  Rogues Gold Eagle is a half-sister to 10 black type including stakes winner Jet Black Rogue and Heza Fast Rogue.

Jerry Deville was the sale's leading buyer with 16 purchases grossing $706,000. Rancho El 48 paid $371,500 for nine yearlings and Luis Roberto Lozano signed seven tickets for $286,500.

Grant Farms, LLC was the leading consignor and/or agent with 34 head grossing $1,005,900. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent sold 28 head for $602,700 and Bobby D. Cox sold 19 yearlings for r$357,400.

Apollitical Blood was the sale's leading sire (by average, two or more sold) with 18 head averaging $42,472. RC Me Leaving You had two yearlings average $36,500 and Freighttrain B sold 53 yearlings for a $32,740 average.

Gold Heart Eagle V was the sales leading first sale-crop sire (by average, two or more sold) with 27 yearlings for $25,396. First sale-crop sire Imperial Hint (TB) had seven yearlings average $11,629.
