Remington Park Spring Meet Ends with Lucrative Stakes Bonanza

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 28, 2020—Darling Farms’ Eagles Fly Higher, a two-time stakes winner during the meet, heads a field of 12 aged sprinters entered in Saturday’s 440-yard, $210,000 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Championship (G1), one of seven Quarter Horse stakes scheduled on Remington Park’s closing-night program.

Eagles Fly Higher has earned $84,714 from three starts this season, and he will be stretching out in distance off of victories in the 350-yard, $50,000 Eastex Stakes (G2) on March 21, and the 400-yard, $84,000 Sooner State Stakes (RG1) on April 18. The 4-year-old One Famous Eagle has won six of 17 races and has banked $390,660, but he is winless in three outs at the quarter-mile distance.

Eagles Fly Higher drew post 6 and will be ridden by Mario Delgado for trainer Casey Black.

Other contenders include Apocalyptical Jess, a 4-year-old son of world champion Apollitical Jess trained by Blane Wood for owner Bill T. Robbins of San Jose, California. Apocalyptical Jess is seeking his first win of the season, but the sorrel gelding is coming off of a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Dexxter, in the 400-yard, $68,000 Leo Stakes (G1) on May 2.

Apocalyptical Jess was the sport’s champion 2-year-old gelding in 2018, and his three wins in five races at the 440-yard trip include the 2018 All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs. He drew post 7 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez.

Dexxter made his local debut with a victory in the Leo Stakes. A 4-year-old son of Corona Cartel trained by Monty Arrossa for owners Dunn Ranch and Valeriano Racing Stables, the gelding has won six of 16 outs and has banked $279,272, and the Remington Park Championship will mark his first-ever start at the 440-yard distance.

Dexxter drew post 8 and will be ridden by James Flores. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:

Oklahoma’s richest horse race, the 350-yard, $826,260 Heritage Place Futurity (G1), has drawn a full field of 10 2-year-olds, headed by 6-5 morning-line favorite Aint She Tempting.

A sorrel daughter of champion Tempting Dash trained by Monty Arrossa for owner Levings Racing LLC and Dunn Ranch, Aint She Tempting has won her last two starts, including the 300-yard, $383,725 Oklahoma Futurity (G2) on March 21. The filly has earned $164,220 from three races.

Aint She Tempting drew post 2 and will be ridden by James Flores. Other contenders include Instygator, a son of Ivory James trained by Jacobo Mejia for owner Jose E. Guzman, who purchased the brown gelding for $25,000 at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Instygator has won both of his races, and he is coming off of a dominating 3 1/2-length victory in his Heritage Place Futurity trial. Instygator drew post 6 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez.

Mr Dillard, a graded stakes winning Hes Relentless gelding campaigned by L Hendrix Horses LLC, heads a field of 10 sophomores entered back in Saturday’s 400-yard, $232,000 Heritage Place Derby (G2).

Trained by Clint Crawford, Mr Dillard will be making his second start of the year off of a 2-year-old season during which he earned $149,653 from just four outs and scored a half-length victory in the $253,000 Black Gold 350 Futurity (RG3) at Will Rogers Downs. The gelding drew post 10 and will be ridden by Cody Smith.

Valeriano Racing Stables LLC’s Inaugurator will risk his three-race win streak from the rail post. A sorrel Apollitical Jess gelding, Inaugurator has won both of his starts during the current Remington Park meet, including one of five trials on May 10.

Inaugurator will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez for trainer Monty Arrossa.

Four other stakes will be contested on Saturday. Eye Work For You is the early favorite for Saturday’s 350-yard, $45,000 Easy Jet Stakes (RG3) for Oklahoma-bred juveniles. A son of Coronas Leaving You trained by Marcos Carrizales for owner Jose E. Guzman, the undefeated gelding has earned $379,330 from three starts, and he is coming off of a nose victory in the April 18, 330-yard Remington Park Futurity (RG1). Eye Work For You drew post 4 and will be ridden by James Flores.

Let There Be Sound brings a five-race win streak into Saturday’s 870-yard, $40,000 Remington Park Distance Championship (G2). A 6-year-old One Famous Eagle gelding owned by Louis and Corrine Howard, Let There Be Sound’s streak includes a victory in the 870-yard, $43,000 Pauls Valley Stakes (G3) at Remington on April 2, and he ended his 2019 campaign with a three-quarter length win in the 870-yard, $104,000 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship (G3) at Albuquerque Downs. The gelding drew post 2 and will be ridden by Stormy Smith for trainer John Stinebaugh.

Trainer Blane Wood will send out contender Whistle Stop Cafe in Saturday’s 350-yard, $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile Stakes. A $42,000 purchase by owner Whitmire Ranch at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the gray Freighttrain B filly made her debut with a neck victory in a Heritage Place Futurity trial on May 9. Whistle Stop Cafe drew post 2 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez.

Curls Happy Wagon is one of a dozen distaffers entered in Saturday’s 400-yard, $85,000 Junos Request Stakes (G1). A homebred brown daughter of PYC Paint Your Wagon owned by Michael A. Pohl and Martin Stacy, the mare began her 5-year-old campaign with a wire-to-wire, three-quarter length victory in the 350-yard, $50,000 Decketta Stakes (G2) on March 21. Curls Happy Wagon drew post 7 and will be ridden by Jorge Torres for trainer Stacy Charette-Hill.
