MJ Farm’s world record holder Kendall Jackson will retire on Friday, January 28 at Sunland Park, according to trainer Mike Joiner.
The 7-year-old son of Dash Ta Fame has 14 races, finishing second four times and third nine times in 40 starts while earning $420,539. The gelding won five stakes, including the MBNA America New Mexico Challenge-G1 (twice), West Texas Derby-G3, Sunland Express Handicap-G3 (twice).
Kendall Jackson's greatest accomplishments were setting two world records, one at 400 yards and one at 440 at Sunland Park. He ran his first world record time on April 7, 2002 in the MBNA America New Mexico Challenge-G1. The 440 yard record of :20.733 still stands. The second world record, at 400 yards, was set on Valentine's Day in 2003 in a trial. He ran a time of :19.073, which was recently lowered by Mongoose Jet Eye in the 2004 Sunland Park Championship-G1.
Sunland Park Racing Secretary Norm Amundson calls Kendall Jackson "One of the greatest Quarter Horses to ever run at Sunland Park during the last two seasons."
Kendall Jackson was bred by Janis Spencer Murray, and raced for her and her husband Mac's MJ Farms. Bred in Utah, he is out of their homebred Lanes Leinster mare Champagne Lane. His sire Dash Ta Fame stands at their farm in Veguita, New Mexico and is owned by Bob Burt.
On Friday Kendall Jackson will be honored with a winner's circle presentation at Sunland Park.
