ELGIN, TX–JUNE 22, 2025–Dr. Charles W. “Doc” Graham, a cornerstone of the Texas horse racing and breeding industries, passed away on Saturday, June 21, after a courageous battle with cancer. His death marks the loss of a visionary whose influence reached far beyond the barns and breeding sheds of Elgin, leaving a legacy that helped define modern horse racing in the Southwest.
Dr. Graham spent more than six decades shaping the horse industry in Texas and beyond. RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–JUNE 20, 2025–Ruidoso Downs Racetrack will honor and induct the 2025 Ruidoso Downs Racing Hall of Fame class on Thursday evening, August 7th in the Turf Club. The annual gala will be held the same weekend as trials for the All American Futurity, All American Derby, and All American Oaks. AMARILLO, TX–JUNE 18, 2025–The American Quarter Horse Association believes the welfare of the American Quarter Horse is of paramount importance.
While AQHA is an equine breed registry and not directly involved with American Quarter Horse racing regulation, it strongly supports industry efforts to improve racing welfare, it works closely with international, national and state regulatory bodies to improve standards and ensure integrity.
Among its efforts is the AQHA Awards and Media Policy, which was first implemented in 2018, and strives to support the pursuit of a level playing field for all American Quarter Horse racing participants by prohibiting awards and media coverage for horses and/or people who have violations that could potentially impact the outcome of a race and/or endanger equine athletes.
