Longtime Ruidoso Horse Sale Manager and Horseman Lowell D. Neumayer Passes Away

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–NOVEMBER 26, 2024–Longtime Ruidoso Horse Sale Company manager and horseman Lowell D. Neumayer, 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Ruidoso, New Mexico, on Sunday, November 24.

Born December 26, 1943, in Dimmitt, Texas, he farmed and ranched in Dimmitt and Montoya, New Mexico.

In 1988, he became the General Manager of the Ruidoso Horse Sale Company. In 1989, his first year at the helm, the Select Sale grossed $1.7 million. By contrast, the last Select Sale and New Mexico-Bred Sale under his management in 2023 combined to gross over $31.6 million.

In 2018, the Ruidoso Downs Racehorse Hall of Fame honored Neumayer for his long service and for building one of Quarter Horse Racing's elite sales, the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

Neumayer owned, co-owned, and bred many influential Quarter Horses, including Chicarun, Sixy Chick, Sixarun, and Tempered Glass, to name only a few. He was closely associated with the syndications of important stallions Mr Jess Perry, Stoli, Ocean Runaway, and Hes Relentless.

He is survived by his former spouse and good friend Judy Neumayer, sons Bowie Neumayer and wife Sheri and Rodney Neumayer and wife Cindy, grandchildren Ashlynn, Abbie, and Jordan Neumayer, and close friend Holly King.

Services are pending and will be held in Ruidoso Downs at a date to be announced.
