February TQHA News and Notes

ELGIN, TX–FEBRUARY 4, 2025–Scott Sherwood, Director of Racing for the Texas Quarter Horse Association (TQHA), recently released TQHA News and Notes for February.

Important Accredited Texas Bred Deadlines

Don’t forget to get your short yearlings (foals of 2024) Racing Accredited at the $50 weanling fee by March 1, 2025.  After that the fee reverts to the $100 yearling fee through December 31, 2025.

If you don’t have your registration certificate back from AQHA you can send in the TQHA Racing Stock Application and put “Unnamed” in the horse name section and we can accredit as an Unnamed foal.  Forms that are not completely filled out will not be processed.

Any mares you plan to breed in 2025 that are not accredited be sure to get them Breeding Stock accredited by June 30, 2025 to pay the discounted fee of $50.  After that the in-foal broodmare fee goes up to $100.

If you have a stallion that needs to be Breeding Accredited you need to do that by April 15, 2025 for the fee of $50.  After that the fee goes up to $100.  AND FINALLY…if you have a stallion that you want in our stallion participation program or a stallion that you normally pay the yearly participation fee on you missed the first deadline so be sure and get your annual fee of $150 fee paid by the second deadline of April 15, 2025 or it goes up to $300 through December 31, 2025.

2025 TQHA Stallion Auction

The "buy it now" portion of the auction continues through March 15, 2025.  There are still a couple dozen stallions still available at discounted prices.  The entire auction is done online so to see what sires are included in the "buy it now" go to https://tqhastallionauction.com/ and click on the box in the center that says “Click For Race Horse Auction”.

NOTE…If you are looking at this site on your phone, once you click on the box, your screen may not change, but if you scroll down, you will see the stallions.

2025 Texas Classic Futurity and Derby and Purina Feeds Texas Classic Oaks

The second payment for the Texas Classic series of races is due on February 15th and is $300 each.  If you did not nominate your horse (or just forgot to) then the late fee to get in on February 15th is a total payment of $800 each.

The list of nominated horses and the nomination blanks can be found on the TQHA Website, www.tqha.com under the Racing tab, Texas Classic Races tab.  With the recent Quarter Horse Racing headlines some of you that skipped nominating your horses because you felt like you had no chance due to the suspected wrong doings of others may now want to take a look at jumping back in.

Unnamed Accredited Horses

If you have a horse that you Racing Stock Accredited without papers please be sure and send those papers in to us to be stamped and so we can also get the name in our system so you don’t miss out on any owner/breeder/stallion awards that may be coming your way.  If your papers are already with your trainer then get us a copy.  We can make that work as well.
