OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MARCH 14, 2025–Extremely high southerly winds have forced Remington Park to cancel racing this evening, Friday, March 14.
The constant 40-50mph winds, with gusts up to 70mph, have made an unsafe environment for the horses, horsemen and operations staff to conduct a proper racing program. The high winds and drastically low humidity have also brought on high fire danger. Already, one small grass fire has been extinguished on property this afternoon by Remington Park staff.
"Remington Park and Oklahoma horsemen pride themselves on putting on the racing program regardless of the massive ups and downs caused by our weather," said Matt Vance, executive vice president of racing. "Today's situation is just too much to attempt to race. While most horses and horsemen that compete are stabled here, it is not safe for those that travel to Remington Park from across the state, that haul horse trailers on the highways."
The winds have caused multiple large vehicle turnovers on the highways as well as creating power outages throughout Oklahoma.
Remington Park racing is scheduled to continue Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16. The first race Saturday is at 6pm with Sunday racing at 4pm. All times are Central.
Remington Park has provided more than $376 Million to the State of Oklahoma general education fund since the opening of the casino in 2005. Located at the junction of Interstates 35 & 44, in the heart of the Oklahoma City Adventure District, Remington Park presents year-round simulcast racing and casino gaming.
