ALEXANDRIA–MARCH 20, 2025– The Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association (LQHBA) is set to offer significant rewards for Quarter Horses and Louisiana students alike on Saturday, March 29, at Louisiana Downs.
The LQHBA will award five $2,000 scholarships to further the education of Louisiana students that afternoon..
In addition, the Bossier City racetrack will host the finals of the $399,104 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2), as well as the $346,566 Louisiana Down Futurity [G2[. Post time for the first race at Louisiana Downs on Saturday starts at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
The five scholarships will be awarded through a live drawing in the Louisiana Downs winner’s circle by LQHBA board members and dignitaries immediately following the fourth race.
Applicants must register in person beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29th, 2025. Registration will close promptly after the third race. Entrants must be present to win.
The LQHBA Scholarship Registration table will be located at the foot of the escalator on the casino level. For more information on scholarship eligibility, please visit the LQHBA website at LQHBA.com.
Scholarship participants/entrants must be Louisiana High School graduates or students graduating in 2025 who plan to attend a higher education institution. Louisiana residents enrolled in a Louisiana college or university are also eligible.
The scholarship is limited to the cost of tuition, books (electronic or printed), and required electronic study materials only. The proceeds will be paid directly to the educational institution that the recipient attends.
Scholarships are subject to approval by the LQHBA board. All scholarship recipients are required to participate in promotional photos, receive their scholarship award certificate, and publication of any contest entry submissions.
While the primary goal of the LQHBA is to promote breeding and racing in the state, the association remains dedicated to furthering higher education for Louisiana youth. The scholarship program was the vision of the late Jim Mitchell and Leverne Perry and is supported strongly by the LQHBA and its board members. Since its inception in 2001, the LQHBA scholarship program has provided more than $800,000 for Louisiana students.
