BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 29, 2025–Louisiana Downs concluded its 2025 Quarter Horse race meet on Saturday, March 29. The 46-day season began on January 9 and wrapped up with the meet's richest race, the $399,104 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2), along with the $346,566 Louisiana Downs Futurity (G2). The racetrack ended the season with a presentation honoring the leading owner, trainer, and jockey of 2025.
The leaders of the 2025 meet at Louisiana Downs include jockey Arturo Alvarez, trainer Andre Brooks, and owner Guerras Racing Stables.
For the third consecutive year, jockey Arturo Alvarez secured the top spot by achieving 30 wins from 187 starts. He narrowly edged out jockey Rolando Cabrera by just one win, earning the title of Louisiana Downs 2025 champion jockey and establishing himself as one of the top Quarter Horse jockeys in the region.

Throughout his 187 starts, Alvarez recorded 30 wins, 21 second-place finishes, and 24 third-place finishes, with total purses amounting to $286,189.
A native of Jalisco, Mexico, Alvarez qualified several horses for stakes races this season, including the fastest qualifier, Ruse Gold as well as Jess B Sizzlin, for the Mardi Gras Oaks.
He also qualified Jessapilottrain, One Dashing Mind, and Jaccx Sizzle for the Mardi Gras Futurity [RG2] and Thetrainrobbersace for the Mardi Gras Derby. He also rode Toxic Dynasty, in the Louisiana Downs Futurity [G2] finals.

Trainer Andre Brooks claimed the title of Louisiana Downs champion trainer for 2025. With a total of 13 wins from 47 starts, he outperformed four other trainers who each had 12 wins, including Pattrick Clemons, John Norwood Jr, Gilberto Gonzalez and Ismael Solis-Guevara.
In addition to his victories, Brooks achieved 10 second-place finishes and four third-place finishes, accumulating earnings of $144,377. He conditions Luci B, a finalist in the meet's richest race, the Mardi Gras Futurity [RG2]. Some of the successful winning horses he trained include Run For The Prize, Hope Tide, and Fdd Went Fishing.

Last year's reigning champion owner, Guerras Racing Stables, once again took the honor this year. With 11 wins out of 51 starts, they ranked four wins higher than Cuandra Santa Cruz LLC, which recorded seven victories from 38 starts.
Ricardo Guerra of Guerras Racing Stables also secured seven second-place finishes and two third-place finishes, totaling earnings of $84,869.
One of his standout winners is Cinco La Nina, who broke her maiden in January and became a finalist in the Mardi Gras Oaks.
Louisiana Downs is already preparing for its 2025 Thoroughbred season, which will begin on May 3 and run through September 25.
